Information of the required quality always has the potential of improving efficiency in all spheres of agriculture. Information and Communication Technology (AICT) has a major role to play in all aspects of agriculture. In addition to facilitating students/teachers/researchers/farmers in improving the efficiency and productivity of agriculture and allied activities, the potential of AICT lies in bringing about an overall qualitative improvement in University by providing timely and quality information inputs for decision making. This is the era of information and AICT will be play major role to enhance the quality, performance and speed of University activities hence rapid development in this field is the priority to step up with the day to day global development in the field of Agriculture. Prior AICT was working as a branch in the University. To setup a infrastructure of hardware, software and connectivity, to develop a content management system and database of research, education and extension as well as user friendly interface for users to access and update the contents, to provide timely and quality information access to the scientist/ teachers/students/farmers as well as management, to keep track and link with State Govt./ Central Govt./ICAR/Other organization, university needs separate functioning of IT Center. Demand of the time in the era of information, S.D. Agriculture University take decision to establish separate Center for Agricultural Information and Communication Technology at Central Library building, Sardarkrushinagr by this year in the 13th meeting of Board of Management held on 28.3.2008. The Center for Agricultural Information and communication Technology was inaugurated by Shri Dilip Sanghani, Hon’ble Minister of Agriculture and Co-operation, Gujarat State on 12-5-2008. |
