State level three days online farmers’ Workshop on “Mushroom Production Technology” organised by Krushi Vigyan Kendra, Banaskantha-I, Gujarat

Krushi Vigyan Kendra, Banasknatha-I, Gujarat organised three days State level online farmers’ workshop from 13-15 May 2020. Total 110 farmers, stakeholders, rural youth and women’s from 17 districts of Gujarat participated in this programme through Google meet app. Dr. V. V. Prajapati,  Senior Scientist and head, KVK Banasknatha-I extended warm welcome to all the participants and dignitaries. The programme was inaugurated by Dr. R. K. Patel, Hon. Vice Chancellor of Sardarkrushinagar Dantiwada Agricultural University, SK Nagar, Gujarat. During his inaugural speech, he highlighted nutritional importance of mushroom, health benefit, current status of mushroom cultivation in Gujarat and future opportunities in Banaskantha district. Further the programme addressed by Dr. Lakhan Singh, Director ATARI Pune as a chief guest and he indicated mushroom cultivation is emerging as commercial farming in different parts of our country. This activity requires very little land and can be good source of employment for small and landless farmers, educated youth and women. He stated if farmer could earn 15-20 thousand rupees per month from mushroom cultivation that may be good for his/her livelihood security. At the end of inaugural session, Padma Shri Genabhai Patel expressed Banaskantha district has a huge potential for mushroom cultivation and this is the best approach to were doubling farmers income could be possible for small,  marginal and landless holders.  

In first day technical session, Dr. Yogesh Pawar, Scientist (Horticulture) delivered talk about types and nutritional importance of mushroom. He focused about different types mushroom species existing in Indian weather condition, its importance, nutritional values and health benefit. Dr. Vikas Bhalerao, Assistant Prof. (Plant Pathology) delivered an expert talk on production technology of oyster mushroom and after both talk fruitful discussion was carried out with farmers.

On Second day of workshop, Dr. Shwet Kamal, Principal Scientist (ICAR-DMR, Solan) take over technical session and will speak about Production technology of button mushroom, Dr. S. S. Sharma, Prof. & Head, (Plant Pathology, MPUAT, Udaipur Rajasthan) on Production techniques for organic mushroom and Dr. Amol Deshmukh, (Asst. Professor, NAU, Navsari) on Spawn production technology.

On third day of workshop, technical session will be handover to Shri Kiran Pawar, CEO, Siddharth Mushroom, Nashik (Maharashtra) on Business prospects in mushroom, Dr. Rabba Arvinda, Founder President, Mushroom club, Pune (Maharashtra) on Entrepreneurship development through Button mushroom production, Dr. Manisha Shinde, (Asst. Professor, SDAU, Gujarat) Different local substrates for composting. 

The main objective of this workshop is to encourage farmers’ to take up the mushroom cultivation as an enterprise through adoption of scientific mushroom cultivation technology.
