World Zoonoses Day Celebration- Webinar on Emerging Scenario of zoonoses and its public health significance

6th July of every year is commemorated as World Zoonoses Day to remember first inoculation of Rabies vaccine by Legendry Louis Pasteur. Department of Veterinary Microbiology and Veterinary Public Health and Epidemiology of College of Veterinary Science and AH, SardarkrushinagarDantiwada Agricultural University, Sardarkrushinagar celebrated World Zoonoses Day -2020 by organising a webinar and online quiz. In the webinar, a total of 345 participants got registered from length and breadth of nation. This celebration was presided over by Dr. (Prof.) R. K. Patel, Hon’ble Vice chancellor,SDAU and Dr. (Prof.) R. K. Singh,Director and Vice Chancellor of Indian Veterinary Research Institute, Izatnagar was the Chief Guest of the occasion. At the outset, Dr. D.V. Joshi, Dean, College of Veterinary Science and AH, SDAU welcomed the guests, invited speakers and participants. In the Presidential address, Dr. R.K. Patel, Vice Chancellor of SDAU emphasized upon importance of zoonoses and achievements of SDAU and congratulated the faculty members of Veterinary College for providing the diagnostic and clinical services during the COVID -19 lockdown period. In key note address, Dr. R. K. Singh urged scientists of country to keep their laboratory ready for diagnosis of BSL-2 level organisms, preserve the isolates and build up a nationwide repository and finally he informed with pride that many veterinary institutions and personnel are involved in Covid-19 diagnosis which represents involvement of veterinarians in strengthening ‘One Health Approach’.

In thematic lecture series, Dr. Arnab Sen, Head, Division of Animal Health, ICAR research complex, NEH region, Barapani, Meghalaya delivered lecture on “Emerging threats of zoonotic pathogens: Ideas to be revisited”, followed by Dr. I. H. Kalyani, Professor and Head, Department of Veterinary Microbiology, Vanbandhu Veterinary College, Navsari Agricultural University, Navsari gave detailed outline on “Leptospirosis: Awareness and importance for field veterinarians”. Lastly, Dr. H.C. Chauhan, Professor and Head, Department of Veterinary Microbiology, College of Veterinary Science and AH, SDAU, Sardarkrushinagar touched global problem of Antibiotic resistance with his deliverance “One health approach for containment of AMR”. The participants enthusiastically gave feedback and their queries were resolved by experts.

The quiz contest was organised by Dr. B.I. Prajapati, Co-Organising Secretary and   Assistant Professor, VPH for undergraduate and postgraduate students. Total 66 participants took part in the quiz. Dr. J.H. Chaudhary, AAU, Anand, Dr. Bhavin Katira, Veterinary College, SDAU, Asrdarkrushinagar and Dr. Chandrahas Sannat, Veterinary College, Anjora, Durg were the top three rankers of the quiz. Dr. H. B. Patel, Director IT, SDAU coordinated the programme and webinar was concluded by proposing Vote of thanks by Dr. H. C. Chauhan.
