National webinar on “Recent trends in Horticultural Entomology” organized by Department of Plant Protection, College of Horticulture, Jagudan on 27th August, 2020. The webinar received excellent response with 1950 registered participants from the entire parts of the country. Out of the registered candidate, around 250 participants continuously remain present online during the webinar. At the initiation, Dr. R. S. Jaimin, Organizing convener presents outline of the webinar. Dr. A. U. Amin, Principal & Dean of our college welcome worthy vice-chancellor of Sardarkrushinagar Dantiwada Agricultural University, Dr. R. N. Singh, Director of Research & Dean P. G. Studies, Registrar Dr. K. K. Patel, Dr. Dr. V. T. Patel, Director Extension Education, all the invited speakers and participants. He also summarized the horticulture in relation to the entomology.
Dr. R. K. Patel, Honourable Vice Chancellor enlightens the role of horticulture in food and nutritional economy of the nation. He focused on impact of pest management by the various integrated approached for effective, ecological and economic and economic returns. Moreover, he emphasized that there are vast scopes of diverse entomological approaches to increase the horticultural production and save the entomological approaches to increase the Horticultural production and save the entomological losses. He congratulated, Dr. A. U. Amin, Principal and Dean, Dr. R. S. Jaiman, organizing convener, Naziya P. Pathan, organizing secretary and all the staffs of Department of Plant Protection for planning executing such a webinar on emerging issues in horticulture in the entire nation.
Among the eminent speakers Dr. Kuldeep Srivastava, Principal Scientist, Entomology, Indian Institute of Vegetable Research, Varansi has emphasized on challenges and IPM strategies in most perishable commodities like fruits and vegetables. Dr. P. S. Patel narrated his views on threating pest (Fruit sucking moth) of horticultural crops. Dr. S. M. Haldar, Associate Professor, Central Agricultural University, Imphal focused on pest management strategies in dry land horticultural/barren horticulture. Naziya P. Pathan, Assistant Professor, highlighted the role of honeybee in pollination mechanism through the pollination as major problem particularly in cross pollinated crops. Dr. D. B. Sisodiya delivered his talk on IPM of vegetable under protected cultivation. Dr. Jaipal Singh Chaudhary, Scientist ICAR-RCER, Farming System Research Centre for Hill and Plateau Region, Ranchi, Jharkhand discussed on population genetics and phylogeography of fruit fly species of important horticultural crops in India.
