A national webinar entitled “Entrepreneurship opportunities in processing of fruit & vegetable of the arid region” was organized by the Department of Post Harvest Technology, College of Horticulture, Jagudan on 2ndSeptember, 2020. The webinar received excellent response with 634registered participants from different parts of the country. Out of the registered candidate, around 250 participants continuously remained present online during the webinar. At the initiation, Dr. M.B.Patel, the Organizing Convener presented outline of the webinar. Dr. A. U. Amin, Principal & Dean of the college welcomed Dr. R.K. Patel, Vice-Chancellor of Sardarkrushinagar Dantiwada Agricultural University, Dr. R. N. Singh, Director of Research & Dean P. G. Studies, Dr. K. K. Patel, Registrar, Dr. Dr. V. T. Patel, Director Extension Education, all the invited speakers and participants. He also briefed the importance of post harvest technology in the present era. Dr. R. N. Singh, Director of Research & Dean P. G. Studies focused on food processing status of India. He discussed on preservation of foods by using different processing methods. Moreover, he emphasized that processing of arid fruits and vegetables not only reduce market glut but also generate employment in rural areas. He congratulated, Dr. A. U. Amin, Principal and Dean, Dr. M.B.Patel, Organizing Convener, Alok Nath, Organizing Secretary and all the staff of the Department of Post Harvest Technology for planning and executing such a webinar.

Among the eminent speakers Dr.R.F. Suthar, Officer on Special Duty, College of Food Processing Technology & Bioenergy, A.A.U, Anand  emphasized on entrepreneurship opportunities in fruit and vegetable processing. Dr. Nilesh K.Gaikwad , Sr. Scientist (Agril. Structure & Process Engg.), NRC on Pomegranate, Solapur expressed his views on processing of pomegranate and its value added products. Dr. Ajita Tiwari, Assistant Professor, Department of Agril. Engg., TSSOT, Assam University, Silchar, explained the importance of food additives in processing / preservation of fruits & vegetables. Dr. Anit Kumar, Assistant Professor (NPIU), Department of Food Technology, HBTU, Kanpur highlighted on  high Pressure homogenization of fruits & vegetables,  a much needed information for the new generation of processors and scientists. Er. Ayon Tarafdar, Scientist, Division of Livestock Production & Management, ICAR-IVRI, Izatnagar, Bareilly (UP) delivered his talk on Processing technology of fruit based beverages. Er. Nikunj Shah, Director R & D, Clarion Casein Ltd., Kadi, Mehsana delivered a very informative lecture on a case study of Lemon processing.

This event was concluded with vote of thanks by organizing secretary, Alok Nath, Assistant Professor, Department of Plant Protection, College of Horticulture, Jagudan.
