National webinar on “Recent Advances in Underutilized Fruits” organized by Department of Fruit Science, College of Horticulture, Jagudan on 05th September, 2020. The total 1074 participants have been registered in the webinar along with excellent response from the entire parts of the country. Out of the registered candidate, around 250 participants continuously remain present online during the webinar. At the beginning, Dr. R. K. Jat, Organizing secretary, presented outline of the webinar. Principal & Dean, Dr. A. U. Amin welcomed worthy vice- chancellor of Sardarkrushinagar Dantiwada Agricultural University, Dr. R. K. Patel, Dr. R. N. Singh, Director of Research & Dean P. G. Studies, Registrar, Dr. K. K. Patel, Dr. V. T. Patel, Director of Extension Education, all the invited speakers and participants. He also focused on role of underutilized fruit crops in human health and economic security to small and marginal farmers.
Dr. R. N. Singh, Director of Research & Dean P. G. Studies, enlightened the role of underutilized fruits in human health and entrepreneurship development. He emphasized on adoption and promotion of underutilized fruit crops for harness higher economic return. Moreover, he highlighted that there are diverse range of underutilized fruits to boost human immunity and increase the horticultural production. He congratulated, Dr. A. U. Amin, Principal and Dean, Dr. R. K. Jat, organizing secretary and all the staffs of Department of Fruit Science for planning and execution of such a webinar on underutilized fruits.
Among the eminent speakers Dr. Jitendra Singh enlightened underutilized fruit crops: a new dimension in future horticulture, Dr. Sanjay Singh, Principal Scientist & Head, Central Horticultural Experiment Station (ICAR-CIAH), Vejalpur, Godhra has emphasized on role of underutilized fruits for improving the farmer income under semi-arid conditions, Dr. D. K. Sharma, Professor & Head, Department of Horticulture, College of Agriculture, Navsari Agricultural University, Bharuch delivered his talk on underutilized fruits: a viable option for economic prosperity of tribal’s in Western India, Dr. Piyush Verma, Associate Professor, focused on Kair (Capparis decidua): an important fruit of Western India, Dr. R. A. Kaushik, Professor, Department of Horticulture, Rajasthan College of Agriculture, MPUAT, Udaipur, discussed on entrepreneurship development through processing and value addition of minor fruits and Dr. R. K. Jat, Assistant Professor, delivered his talk on adaptive mechanisms of underutilized fruits under changing environment.
This event was concluded with vote of thanks by co-organizing secretary, Dr. H. N. Leua, Assistant Professor, Department of Fruit Science, College of Horticulture, SDAU, Jagudan.
