A national webinar entitled “Recent Trends in Floriculture & Landscape Industry” was organized by Department of Floriculture and Landscape Architecture, College of Horticulture, Jagudan on 15th October, 2020. The webinar received excellent response with 545 registered participants from the different parts of the country. Out of the registered candidate, around 250 participants remained present online throughout the webinar. In the beginning of the event, Dr.KiranKumari, Organizing Secretary presentedoutline of the webinar. On behalf of Dr. A. U. Amin, Principal & dean of the college, Sh. J. R. Vadodaria, Associate Professor welcomed worthy vice-chancellor of SardarkrushinagarDantiwada Agricultural University, Dr. R. N. Singh, Director of Research & Dean P. G. Studies, Registrar Dr. K. K. Patel,Dr. V. T. Patel, Director Extension Education, all the invited speakers and participants. He also summarized the scenario of horticulture and importance of floriculture & landscaping in detail.
Dr. R. N. Singh, Director of Research & Dean P. G. Studiesenlightened the role of horticulture in food, nutritional security and economy of the nation. He focused on importance and its role in national economy. He also highlighted the status of flower production in North Gujarat. Lastly, he emphasized on the vast scope of floriculture industry and motivated youth of the country to initiate new start-ups.He congratulated, Dr. A. U. Amin, Principal and Dean, Sh. J. R. Vadodaria,Associate Professor,Dr.KiranKumari, Organizing secretary, Miss. Dhawani Patel, Co-organizing secretary and all the staff members of Department of Floriculture and Landscape Architecturefor planning andexecuting such a webinar on need based theme.
Among the eminent speakers Dr. Y. C. Gupta, Dean, College of Horticulture &Forestry, Thunag,Mandi(HP) has emphasized on different advances made in protected cultivation of flower crops. Dr. S. L. Chawla, Associate Professor, ASPEE College of Horticulture & Forestry, NAU, Navsariexpressed his views on career opportunities in turf grass management. Dr. Priyanka Thakur, Principal Floriculturist, RHRTS, Dhaulakuan,Dr Y.S. Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Solanfocused on how native and naturalized flowers can be used for making dry flowers and its different value added products. Dr. Manish Kapoor,Associate Professor &I/C Botanical Gardens, Department of Botany, Punjabi University, Patiala, highlighted the benefits of contract farming in flower seed production. He also discussed the problems faced by farmers and their solution. Dr. NareshPancholi, Ph. D (Agri. Botany), Founder ofPalash Associates, Surat shared his practical knowledgeon different innovations in urban landscaping. Dr. KiranKumari, Assistant Professor, College of Horticulture, SDAU, Jagudandiscussed on different aspects of vertical gardens for better urban environment.
