COLLEGE OF
VETERINARY SCIENCE AND ANIMAL HUSBANDRY

This
college was established on 1.7.1981 at Sardarkrushinagar fulfilling the
long felt aspirations of the peasantry of Banaskantha District, one of
the most backward tribal regions of not only North Gujarat. Within a
brief span of 25 years the institute has bloomed into a full-fledged
center of learning for imparting Veterinary Education through
Under-graduate, Post-graduate and Doctoral programmes. It is a second
Veterinary college in Gujarat. The college was started initially in a
press building and now it has a specious building complex. The college
is having 17 different departments. The principal mandate of the college
is to share the demands of the veterinarians in the state, required for
the development and expansion of animal husbandry sector, enhancement of
productivity and improving the health status of livestock. It also
encompasses the post-graduate teaching and research, transfer of
technology to the farmers and imparting refresher courses for the state
government veterinarians and co-operative Dairies of Gujarat as a part
of extension activity. The Livestock Inspectors Training Centre is
attached to this college. This institute has adopted National Syllabus
prescribed by the Veterinary Council of India (VCI). In addition,
it has a separate Regional Animal Disease Investigation Centre, Mobile
Ambulatory Clinic and a Clinical Complex located at Sardarkrushinagar as
well as at Deesa. The college has well equipped laboratories with modern
and sophisticated equipments / instruments. So far 511 students
received B.V.Sc & A.H. while 114 have obtained M.V.Sc. and 23 were
awarded Ph.D degrees. |
