Research

The Directorate of Research co-ordinates location specific, strategic and anticipatory research on mandated crops and systems of agriculture to generate valuable data, technologies and tools to improve production /productivity, together with value addition of farm produce. To achieve this objective University has a network of 2 zonal, 5 main and 12 sub research stations with multidisciplinary research programmes focusing on crop/livestock improvement, natural resource and input management, seed/sappling production, post harvest  technology. Large scale adoption of University developed varieties along with useful recommendations has helped the state in stepping up the agriculture production. 

Thrust Areas :

*    Identification of niche crops and farming systems

*      Breeding against biotic and abiotic stress

* Maintenance breeding of commercially grown popular crop varieties.

*  Quality seed and seedling production of field and vegetable crops.

* Diagnostic and Agri-clinic facilities for diseases and pests management.

*      Organic farming

*    Establishment of Bee keeping, Sericulture, Mushroom culture, Date palm, Vermi compost, Blue green algae & High tech green house facilities.

*      Providing Veterinary clinical facilities.

* Genetic improvement of Mehsani and Banni Buffalo, Kankrej cattle, Patanwari sheep,  Mehsani goat, Kutchchi Camel breeds through molecular genetics & biotechnology.

* Development of pre and post harvest processing technologies for value addition.

*      Soil and water resource conservation and management

*      Water shed development and management for sustainable agricultural development

*      Development of technologies for sustainable & economic utilization of non conventional energy resources.
